Advanced Micro Devices Inc. on Monday released a PC chip made for hardcore videogame players willing to pay more for power.
The AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 processor is built for computers made to play 3D games and other power-hungry applications with intense and realistic graphic resolutions. The new chip is the fourth iteration of the Athlon 64 FX family.

AMD, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., plans to introduce a dual-core version of the Athlin 64 FX processor as soon as multi-threaded software games are available to take advantage of the architecture, company officials said.

The AMD FX-57 is available worldwide at a starting price of $1,031 apiece in quantities of 1,000.
