Recently some rather seedy individuals have been attempting to steal accounts from Case's Ladder users. They are specifically targeting Platinum and Diamond users so that they can steal their LadderBux. They have designed and are using password cracking programs to try to break into acounts.
Unfortunately, although we have deployed technological security solutions to help limit these kinds of attacks, they have had some success. They are able to steal some accounts because people are using simple passwords which are very easy to hack (such as "1234"). We want to make it clear that they have not hacked or gained access to our servers in any way, but are merely guessing people's passwords. We urge you to use the USER EDITOR on your accounts and make your password a combination of letters and numbers that will be difficult to guess or crack. We will be making changes that require this in the future, but we advise you to change your password immediately if it is potentially easy to guess.
Please be aware that we have been logging all of these attempts that people are making at stealing accounts, and have already begun working with their Internet Service Providers to have them kicked off their providers. Our legal department is also investigating the possibility of bringing Federal charges against these thiefs. This is not something we take lightly.
Please take our advice and consider changing your passwords, not just on Case's Ladder but on any sites you use where this could be an issue.
Sincerely,
Jeremy "Case" Rusnak
