I have the donations block installed in root/blocks. The block tells me that "there isn't content right now for this block." I did put the right email addy in the code. Also, what path does my button upload need to follow to be visible in the block?

The only things you need to change are the YOUR-PAYPAL-EMAIL,Donation #,RETURN-ADDRESS. The donate button is hosted by Paypal.
