1. Is it supposed to be like that? Yes, some do that. It makes no difference as the account gets created.

2. Change the modules permissions, if you cant do it from the modules page do it manually in the DB.

don't mean to but in but for the Create Your account issue:

depending on the theme maker...go to

themes>YOUR_THEME>theme.php
or header.php

look for:

<a href="modules.php?name=Forums&file=profile&mode=editprofile">Create an account</a>

replace with:

<a href="modules.php?name=Your_Account&op=new_user">Create an Account</a>

Since you want the News module to be visible only to registered users, you cannot have it in "Home". This means you must put a different module in Home. You can do this from the "Put in Home" link in the modules table shown in the modules administration panel.

Once the News module is not in Home anymore, you can edit it and choose that it be visible only by the registered users.

***The "Who can View This?" selection box is not available as long as the module remains the "Home" module of your PHP-Nuke installation. That's why you can't restrict the visibility of the Home module, no matter which module this is. The reason for this is that it makes little sense to have a Home module and restrict its availability only to registered users, unless you want your site to be generally available only to registered members.

best suggestion if you want to continue doing that is having the flash as your splash page with a create account button and a login button. this then gives them the chance to either register, if new member or login if old member or none at all.
