I've been throwing around the idea of getting a Mac G5 for graphics and animation. From what I've seen Mac's are the industry standard for all things graphic (other than silicon graphics but, who has $30K for a workstation?) Is this true?

I plan to take some graphic design classes at LSU and may persue a career in GD icon_biggrin.gif

I've always heard that Macs are better for working with graphics than PCs, but i haven't had enough experience on a Mac to form my own opinion. I know that most printing/sign shops created graphics on Macs. The biggest problem we've encountered over the years has been creating graphics that will need to be edited by someone using a Mac and also opening graphics provided by clients that were created on a Mac. We are seeing less and less of this happening, however, because there are programs available now that will convert to either format and also because PCs have come a long way since those days.

These days, I think it's a matter of preference. You'll always have your diehards who won't switch from Mac to Windows, no matter what you say, just like you have people who swear by Adobe over Corel.

I agree with alot of your reply Kelly but, i did a lil more research today and found that u can run windows proggies by emulating windows on a mac giving u the best of both worlds. Also, the G5's are RISC processors which require fewer instructions which means more speed (the box i'm looking n2 getting is a dual g5). I'm certain that I like what I see outta the G5's.

P.S. Corel has always been awesome. have u seen ver 12 yet? I haven't but, a friend bought it the other day and told me he really liked it.

Yea, I've seen a lot of people talking about the G5's. It's supposed to be impressive.

I tried Corel a couple of years back but never really had the time to get into it. I think I have Corel 9 on disk somewhere. I haven't kept up on the later versions. I can't imagine there's much you can do in Corel that I can't do in Photoshop and Illustrator. icon_wink.gif
