I'm running a version of phpnuke 7.8.31 (by Pc Nuke! systems) and have 2 third party add-on modules to display files on my server to the visitor. One is an old module simply called "Documents" which is no longer being developed, and a newer one called "TotalViewer" by SweetPhp.com. In both cases they exhibit weird behavior that is driving me crazy.

What happens is this: The modules are basically designed to be file system catalogers that get pointed at a particular folder in the file system of the server, which they will then present as a file list that a user can click to open the file or download the file. This is where the weird behavior comes in. If a user clicks on an .html or .txt file, the file opens and displays properly. If the user clicks on any other type of file (like a .doc, .ppt, .gif, etc.), the program opens "modules.php" instead of the file selected. If you look at the html link it was shooting for it is the line calling the module, not a real link to the file itself (so it says something like "modules.php?name=Documents&file=index&start=docs&func=dlfile&target=&filename=intranetseatingchartrotated.gif" as the actual link, when it should basically link to the file like /docs/intranetseatingchartrotated.gif)

I would say that this could be a specific problem with a particular module if it wasn't affecting both modules the exact same way, but they have no connection to each other at all except for doing the same type of idea. Is there a generic issue that could be affecting things? The fact that .html files and .txt files work properly but any other type doesn't definitely makes me think theres something underlying going on.

Any help or even a direction to look would be appreciated.

It doesnt actually link to it. The function dlfile probably sends a header to it. Is there a reason the target is blank? That could be causing the problem. Where did you get this module? Is there a copy of a fresh install somewhere?

One of the modules has been long abandoned and is hard to find, I found it on a german phpnuke module database. it's called "documents" and is version .21, this is an original link to it: [ Register or login to view links on this board. ]

I posted on their support forum, but they seem very low in volume so i was hoping that someone here had encountered this behavior before.

As I said in my first post, both modules do the exact same behavior. .html and .txt files will open properly (so they link to the file, and it opens in a new window as full screen html or text) but if you click any other file type it tries to open modules.php instead of that file. .doc, .ppt, basically any windows file type or non-interent native file.

Both modules are totally different in method and coding, but both glitch the same way. I would chalk it up to incompatibility or something (since the Documents module is old and might not work right with 7.0+ of phpnuke), but the TotalViewer module is very recent and is supposed to work right in 7.8

Is it possible Phpnuke is glitching the file types or mime types? Or maybe this is a server setup issue with php or apache? Both modules claim to be able to catalog and work with all of the file types that aren't working. I'm just trying to figure out what could be the root cause of the problems.

Extra info: I'm using php 5.0.3 which I've read has issues with readfile()

Both modules use readfile() to output the files, I'm wondering if this is the problem....

Well, I installed the default phpnuke 7.8 from phpnuke.org and the Documents module worked properly there. TotalViewer did not work properly, but that was in a different way than my normal problem....

Anyway, this makes me think that the issue is related to PCNuke! Systems 7.8.31 Max distro...So what can anyone point to that would cause this? What is so different about the core or this version that would cause .doc files, .jpg, etc. to not want to work properly through one of the modules?
