First off I would like to say I know and understand that disabling the view source from a web site cant be done. But there has to be some ideas that anyone may have in keeping the thieves from taking your stuff. [i.e. tourney rules] I am currently hosting for a league that has had and possibly still having the theft problem. My HA has the working knowledge of HTML. So getting the code to her to use and understand would be no problem. We have had another league take our rules we use for our tourneys and use them as their own. Although most if not all use about the same format, but she has worked long and hard to come up with these rules. I just want to know besides encripting and the no-right click code is there a way to design our rules pagesin a way that will help in this matter. We are quite desperate in this. but there has to be a free something or other to hide the view source?

If you're trying to keep someone from stealing text off of your website, it's virtually impossible to keep that from happening. Even if you disable right click or encrypt the source, it's still possible to highlight the text, or Select All and then do a copy/paste. Even if you had a way to disable that, there'd be no way to stop someone from reading and retyping your text.

It's sad, but that's the way it is. icon_sad.gif

true Kelly but most that are looking to copy other's content from there pages are not all that eager to do a little manual labor. In other means you are more then able to disable the right click functions as well as the select and copy -n- paste. You can also encrypt your source. If you have a lot of content/info. that is worth taking the time to sit and type up, which most will not waste the alloted time period which would consist of to do so. At last that would be there only option to rip your information that is provided per your page(s). I would suggest looking into Telli's js scripts that he's provided located in the download's section upon this site or check out dynamicdrive.com for further information.

all you do if you want copy and paste is highlight what you want and press CTRL+C
you dont even have to press the right mouse button

and even if there was a script to stop that you hit CTRL+U in mozzila and it views the page source..

at the end of the day if you dont want people to take things, dont put it on the web
yeap its a sad occurance but these things happen... icon_razz.gif

i have got a script somewhere that actually disabled the view source in mozzila scrambaling all the code but i know i didnt keep it on my site for some reason and i cant remeber now

if you have the no select feature applied as well as the no-right-click and your souce is encrypted which the js files can be downloaded from here..then there shouldnt be a problem.

Unless someone looks at your page with Javascript disabled in their browser. icon_wink.gif

Nothing is 100% foolproof.
