When using flash to make anything you don't save the finished production, you publish it.

The fla file is your directors cut of the production in a way, Using it to build, create and modify the production till you have something you are satisfied with.

To make the final cut of your production hit ctrl+shift+f12, the "publishing settings" dialog box will open. In it you define the kind of production you want to create, whether it be a "flash movie", a gif (still or animated), a jpg, ect.

Once you have chosen the production format hit publish.

The published file will be sent to the same folder that you have saved the fla file in.
