ok thanks,

I've been inspired to use PHP over HTML after reading an article on PHP in a magazine. For the moment i want it all to just be tested on my computer, so far i only have MySQLCC, ive been on the Apache server site (www.apache.org) and its confusing, it talks about signature verification, it all confuses my completely so does anyone know how this works and how to do it? Then i believe i need to download PHP, i've been onto [ Register or login to view links on this board. ] and found the download, but it has a weird extension, so i decided not to download until i knew how to use it.

Thats all for now thanks

It's packed in a tar.gz. From your command line you would do wget location/to/phptar.gz then do a location/to/php/install you need to read up the documentation for it though it's been a while since I had it on a home computer.

Thanks for that, in the end after closer investigation there is a installshield version of PHP 5.0 for windows, so i opted for that one.

But about Apache, i looked a bit on the php.net site about it, and it made it even more confusing :S, saying it was for Unix, yet i know you can install it on different OSes than just Unix. Any ideas?

Dont worry now, i had a look on [ Register or login to view links on this board. ] and it explained how to set up and configure the Apache server and PHP. Now i just need to start trying out the SQL databases using MySQL Control centre.

Thanks for the help.

Advice: hosting on windows is VERY dangerous, because you have to have your firewall off or disabled or un installed, which lets hackers in, and if your apache server is on 24/7 then your computer is on 24/7 which means hackers can get in 24/7 last time i done that i got hacked too much and it pruned up my computer and i had to reformat

Just some advice icon_mrgreen.gif

Its ok anyway, i make almost everything on a computer not connected to the net, so thats ok. Out of interest, why would you have Apache on 24/7?

Cheers for the advice though, something to keep in mind.
