Hi, I hope this is the right forum for this post:

I'm trying to develop a custom FTP type program that would allow me to back up selected files/data automatically to an off-site server automatically at a certain time or whenever I decide to back it up.

Do you guys know where I could find a program like this?

Or, (and I don't expect a complete answer here) how difficult would this be to program myself?

Also, would any of you be willing to develope it for me? (I'd pay you if need be)

thanks for the help

Not sure if this is what you're looking for.
But sounds like you need to do either a Hot backup or a cold backup.

Doing hot backups while the database (or files) is running.
Cold backup is where you have to take down the system and then do the backup

There are programs that will allow you to do this.
The backup are usually on tape/disc drives, and they can be program to only backup the files that have been updated.
We use a program called ONSYSTEM ECHO.

hope this helps

AIM Address
Do you have shell access to the server? I setup a cronjob on my Linux server that exports the DB, tars up the file, and then FTPs it to a remote server for backup. You could also read up on how to use rsync.
