When I try to back up my database from the admin panel it only downloads the file admin_db_utitlites. I haven't backed up the DB for a couple weeks now so I thought maybe some ACP hack I may have put in since then so I overwrote the current db_utilities with a backup I know is untouched but still get the same results. Is there some where else I should look for this problem?

How big is it? Mysql might be timing out. When it gets so big you have to back it up through your phpmyadmin.

The stats in my ACP say it 17 megs...but I think its much bigger than that because now that you mention it..it installed a spell checker a few days ago. I looked through our server control panel at codezhost but didnt find an option yet to back up from there yet.

Ok...now this is weird. I can backup my site fine but when I try to restore it, it times out. so I tried to restore just the posts and I get this error

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 2107321 bytes) in /var/www/html/phpMyAdmin-2.3.2/read_dump.php on line 112

I am using phpmyadmin on the codezhost server.

Thanks for any help

You can try what I used before. It may work for you.

If not, you will have to open up the sql file in notepad and then upload it in pieces through the sql tab in phpmyadmin.

Thanks a ton! I don't know if it fixed the backing up problem but as soon as I created a new htaccess file in the root and added that code to it all my old posts came back and things are great so far. I have no idea what happened but after upgrading from 7.4 to plat I lost 500 posts in the DB import and the recent topics would only go back to january. This bit of code instantly got it upto date.

It just makes the server run a little harder but nothing noticable unless you had about 500 clients all doing it. Whats happening with the backups is that MYSQL times out when you try to import to much data. I find it will take about 2 meg then it will time out so like Dauthus said you have to do it chunks sometimes.

ok I have the same type of question. I have a 16 meg sql backup file from my site and I'm trying to move my site to another server and phpmyadmin times out every time I try and restore this database? So you guys are saying to break up the file into smaller pieces? How do I do that it's just one big jumble of information??

Thanks

It only looks like one big jumble of info if you open it up in notepad, try using wordpad or another text editor such as ultra edit [ Register or login to view links on this board. ] then you will see the organized structure.
