sorry i have searched and i see this question coming up over and over again but i cant find my answer. im trying to make a link open in a new window but to keep teh original window from going blank.

I'm sorry but what do you mean by "to keep teh original window from going blank."?

Any link that uses the target property to a new window should work and would keep the original window open.

when ever i click on the link the new window opens ok but the original window goes to a whiite screen. after hitting back in the original window it goes back to thescreen in whick you first clicked the link.

that's truly weird. Is this happening to a few of your members or just to you? What browser are you using?

its happening to everyone. i think its my code .ive only tried it in ie but i know other people use firefox and the are saying the same thing.

what is the best way to add a link to the menu. not useing the exlinks function.

i made a new folder in the module folder and added the code above in a index.php file.

is there a better way of doing this?

what kind of menu are you running? Is it the CZM and if so, what version? Is it happening to all the links in the menu or just the external ones?

im useing the newest version right from your site. its only happening to the new modules i made. which are just simply links to different pages so that i could have them organized instead of just under quicklinks of exlinks.

under website if you click on browse you will see the problem.

theere are other links that do it but i have removed all of them

I may be missing something here but the only codes in that white page is the script you are running. It won't show anything else cause there's nothing on that page. A typical web page without a background tag will always show white, that is default.

Try adding other things in there and see if the problem still persists.
